Romero Arteta Ponce has a healthy inventory of well-heeled clients, including international heavyweights Toyota, Delta Air Lines, and Lloyd's Bank. Peers think highly of Diego and Gustavo Romero. "The two brothers are very good," says one peer.
However, competitors did note that the family business model may impede the firm's growth and development. "They've hired a group of four to five young lawyers that are good," says an attorney at a rival firm. "The problem is they can't retain the younger guys when they grow."
Last year, Gustavo, described by rivals as the firm's "most well-known figure in the market", represented LaFarge Cementos in its Octvalo-Ecuador plant expansion, doubling its capacity at a cost of $120 million. In other deals, Gustavo obtained approval from the Ecuadorian Civil Association for an increase in flight frequencies for Delta Airlines after its merger with Northwest Airlines.
