The market contends that Coronel & Pérez has taken advantage of being the only ranked firm headquartered in Guayaquil. In recent years, more and more firms have looked to build a presence in the city, Ecuador's most populous, but until recently Quito has remained dominant. "The trend, especially for multinationals, was that many relied on Quito firms," says a competitor. "Quito still holds a big piece of the pie but there is today no national firm. We believe that will change in a couple of years."
Although most government entities reside in Quito, Guayaquil has the country's largest port and is its manufacturing centre. Coronel's geographic positioning has therefore given them an advantage in certain sectors. "They've structured in a way where they have understood the needs of international clients," notes a peer. "They've continued to develop themselves and have attracted significant players."
Both César Coronel Jones and Jorge Sicouret Lynch earn praise from competitors. An attorney at a competing firm notes that Coronel is a "very talented lawyer." Another rival admires the way Sicouret handled his work, stating that he is "very good, very calm, very thorough, a very good attorney".
