Of the firms that occupy the first tier, there is the feeling among market commentators that Porobija & Porobija is the strongest. "It's not disputable, they have a good reputation," says one partner, adding: "They're still involved in the most interesting deals".
The firm is led by Boris Porobija, an extremely well respected figure on the market. "Porobija is a longstanding cornerstone of the firm and he's still not that old," says one peer.
The team has been active on some big ticket mandates throughout 2010-2011. Among the most notable, the firm acted as Croatian counsel for joint lead managers including Barclays and JPMorgan Securities on two international standalone bond issues for €826 million and €1 billion by the Republic of Croatia. Moreover, the firm advised lenders HSH Nordbank in a €76 million project finance for the wind park Vratarusa in Senj (which is the largest operating wind park in Croatia developed under the new set of RES regulations). The firm also acted for the international creditor Eksportfinans in regard to a loan agreement and security instruments with a Croatian borrower and Croatian guarantor.
