Competitors agree that Quintanilla Soria & Nishizawa is an important firm in Bolivia which commands respect in the local market. One peer states that the nine-member legal team has created "a very important firm that continues to have a very strong reputation and position in the local market handling some significant deals."
The two name partners: Santiago Nishizawa Takano and Eduardo Quintanilla Ballivián, are both respected by the market. "Both are very intelligent, very prepared," says one competitor. "When you negotiate, they are very reasonable and practical in securing the clients' interests, but approach negotiations in an amicable manner." Another points out that Nishizawa is "a well respected figure in the business community," with a good network of contacts.
Quintanilla was busy in the energy and mining sectors last year. The firm advised The Bolivian Generating Group's transfer of shares from its subsidiary Empresa Electrica Valle Hermoso to the Plurinational State of Bolivia, resulting from the government's nationalisation of Empressa. Additionally, Nishizawa helped Empresa Minera Paitití negotiate and execute a Gold Dore Sales Contract with Seagate Minerals & Metals in one of the more important mining deals involving gold.
