Khalifeh & Partners garners a good reaction from the market, with one competitor saying: "I see them as one of the leading firms, they are especially good on corporate." Clients also give the firm strong praise: "My view is very positive. Within the limits of the local market they are one of the best out there," extols one.
Of the firm's lawyers, English and Australian qualified Haitham Hawashin is singled out for his international capital markets experience, that one client feels is unsurpassed in Jordan. One investment banker says he always pushes issuers to opt for the firm when acting in Jordan, saying: "The main advantage these guys have is Haitham Hawashin, who is a former Linklaters counsel. It just helps a lot when doing investment securities in the country having someone who knows how international bonds are done." Another equally values Hawashim's particular expertise: "In general he was very good, it seems like he has done a whole host of equity linked and debt transactions in Asia."
The firm is consistently involved in high-profile mandates and the last 12 months are no different as it played a lead role in the Jordanian Government's $750 million debut issue of sovereign Eurobonds, the largest financing in Jordan's history.
In the financial sector the firm acted for the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in connection with a $110 million loan to the Jordan Phosphate Mining Company.
The firm has also been involved in the several corporate deals. Currently, it is advising a power generation company on the sale of a controlling stake for $75 million.
In a public M&A deal the firm is advising a listed Jordanian company on a $78 million investment in a medical city project in Istanbul, Turkey.
