Well-known in the marketplace for its robust IP practice, Romero Pineda & Asociados has made a concerted effort to expand into the financial and corporate field. "They are very good lawyers with a general practice with an emphasis on IP," says one attorney. "In the past few years they've tried to broaden into other practices."
One competitor notes that Mario Ayala's experience as an in-house counsel should prove to be an important asset for the firm, even though transitioning to private practice can be demanding. "He has knowledge in banking matters, but it's difficult in private practice," says one attorney. "He's improving every day." Another mentions that working across the table with Ayala "was smooth".
Ayala's team helped General Electric with its sale of BAC-Credomatic last year. The firm lent its expertise in banking, competition, and statutory proceedings for the $1.9 billion dollar transaction. Additionally, the firm is currently advising banking conglomerate Grupo Lafise and Telemovil El Salvador on separate transactions.
