One peer remarks that Guandique Segovia Quintanilla is a highly-respected law firm in El Salvador, describing it as "a very good firm that has maintained a good local practice." The firm's robust financial practice counts Scotiabank and Citibank amongst its roster of international clients. "They have a strong presence in banking, most certainly," says one partner.
The firm's three namesake partners - Luis Ernesto Guandique Mejia, Luis Nelson Segovia, and Carlos Quintanilla Schmidt - are all cited by market players as being leading Salvadoran lawyers. Competitors also name Ana Patricia Portillo Reyes as an important and talented lawyer in the financial and corporate field.
A team led by Portillo assisted Fedecrédito, one of El Salvador's leading microcredit cooperatives, securitise family remittances. The novel financing structure was valued at $30 million and was the first time the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, had helped finance a microcredit cooperative in Latin America. The firm also advised Deutsche Bank Securities, the lead manager, bring a $653 million bond issuance by the Republic of El Salvador to the market and assisted buyers with a $450 million bond issuance by Telemovil Finance.
