Another regional firm in the Central American legal market, García & Bodán has used its network to buttress its office in El Salvador. The firm was counsel to Grupo Esczu, a Costa Rican construction company, and negotiated contracts for Construction Works in El Salvador. The firm helped with incorporation documents, guided the design of the corporate structure, and has continued to advise the company in tax, labour and general corporate issues. Additionally, García & Bodán has advised Stanley Black & Decker and consumer goods company Energizer Holdings.

The regional network of García & Bodán has provided the Honduran office with a string of activity in the financial and corporate practice area. However, the competition notes that the firm's office is a smaller player in the local market.

Despite the size, the firm has participated in some large regional transactions. In addition to supporting GE's sale of Bank of Central America, the Honduran office has provided ongoing assistance to BNP Paribas. Furthermore, the firm assisted E&Co Capital, a clean energy financier, with the preparation and revision of credit authorisations for three renewable energy plants.

One client cites the quick response of the firm and the quality control between the firm's Honduran and Nicaraguan offices. Additionally, he is pleased with partner Vanessa Oqueli de Riera. "She's very good, always on top of it and she does a very good job," he says.

Terencio J García Montenegro's stewardship is a primary reason for the firm's ascendancy, as he is respected by his peers and enjoyed by his clients. A team led by Montenegro helped Empresa Industrial Arrocera Altamira (IAASA) sell $13 million worth of assets to Nicaraguan buyers. Additionally, the firm advised and represented GE Capital in Nicaragua as it sold its stake in Bank of Central America (BAC). The deal required approval from the Superintendent of Banks and utilised the firm's corporate and regulatory expertise. The multinational transaction was valued at $1.9 billion and was one of Central America's largest last year.
