French energy company EDF has signed a contract to purchase at least 51% of the reactor business of nuclear and renewable energy company Areva, Areva NP.
EDF will control the new company, known as New NP.
EDF will acquire a stake of up to 75% in New NP and strategic investors will be able to take minority stakes.
The sale price for 100% of the equity value of New NP amounted to €2.5 billion.
The plan was backed by the French government as part of a wider plan to rejuvenate the nuclear industry in the country.
The transaction is likely to conclude in the second half of 2017.
