Overview:

  • The Femernbælt Link is a major construction project to link the Danish island of Lolland with the German island of Fehmarn via an 17.6km immersed tunnel under the Fehmarn Belt in the Baltic Sea.
  • Once completed, it will provide a direct link between Northern Germany and Copenhagen by road and rail, cutting some 200 km off the current overland route.
  • The project is being developed by project company Femern.
  • The estimated total cost of the project is kr54.9 billion.
  • Completion is currently estimated to be in 2024.
  • It has been designated as one of the EU's 30 Trans-European Transport Networks priority projects.
