K&L Gates launches in Italy

02 Feb 2012

K&L Gates has launched an Italian office through a merger with Milanese firm Marini Salsi Picciau Studio Legale (MSP).

The office is the firm's 41st location worldwide and follows the launch last year of new practices in Brussels and Doha. Outside of the EMEA region the firm also opened in Sao Paolo towards the end of 2011 and just last month increased its sizeable US presence with a launch in Charleston.

The US firm's new partner MSP is a ten lawyer operation focusing on corporate, projects, restructuring & insolvency and disputes. It is led by former Davis Polk & Wardwell partner Pasquale Marini and Giampaolo Salsi.

K&L chairman Peter Kallis said that the launch rounded out the firm's European network and suggested that despite recent rapid expansion, thae firm would not be looking to launch in any further locations this year.

“Given the nature of K&L Gates, with 40 offices around the world, and the size of the Italian economy and the natural level of outbound work heading to Italy, it’s a lay-down case for us to enter the Italian market,” he said.

“Both Giampaolo and Pasquale have worked in international law firms and understand how those firms work. They’re also familiar with handling international inbound work for major clients in our core areas such as financial services, manufacturing companies, construction companies and companies in the mid-market.”
